The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has opened a call for evidence on flea and tick treatments containing fipronil and imidacloprid, following concerns about their impact on UK songbirds. Research from the University of Sussex linked exposure to increased offspring mortality and more unhatched eggs.
The consultation closes on 11 June 2026 and is seeking views on the environmental impact of these treatments and whether changes are needed to how they are supplied in the UK. The findings will help inform future regulation and use.
