PALM OIL
DEFORESTATION
EXTINCTION

Palm oil is used in 50% of all packaged food and 70% of cosmetics but poor labelling makes it easy for these ingredients to hide.

Vegetable oil, vegetable fat, palm kernel, palm kernel oil, stearic acid, glyceryl, stearate, sodium laureth sulphate, Elaeis Guineensis, Sodium Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Palmitoyl Oxostearamide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3

SOME HIDDEN PALM OIL NAMES

Indonesia and Malaysia
provide 85% of global palm oil but demand is set to exponentially rise.  Extending plantations to new biodiverse-rich countries could be devastating.

Did you know you could protect Orangutans more by using sustainable palm oil rather than boycotting it?

Example of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Food Label

Blanket boycotts could cause more deforestation.  If farmers are forced to grow alternative oil crops they could need 9 times as much land to produce the same yield.

Land Requirements of Different Oil Producing Crops

Boycotting could flood the market with unwanted palm oil and force producers to lower their prices. This in turn could increase demand.

Boycotting palm oil punishes responsible palm oil companies and removes incentives for them to protect the forests.
