Trail Hunting BAN
The Labour government committed to a ban on trail hunting in their manifesto. Ahead of introducing legislation, Defra launched a consultation to gauge the views of the general public. You can read about the proposed trail hunting ban here.

Following on from this consultation, we want to keep the conversation going. Use the template below to ask your MP to support a ban on trail hunting and remove the exemptions that currently exist under the Hunting Act 2004.

Email Subject Line: A Ban on Trail Hunting
Dear (MP’s Name),
I’m writing as one of your constituents as I want to ensure a full ban on trail hunting. The UK government recently held a consultation on banning trail hunting but I am concerned that they won't remove all the exemptions. These continue to act as a vehicle for breaking the law.
Hunting causes the unnecessary killing of UK wildlife, devalues their lives, and allows them to suffer merely for the sake of human entertainment. As a modern society, we should be moving towards becoming increasingly compassionate towards wildlife. Allowing hunting to continue, we fail to provide animals with basic protection.
Trail hunting only emerged after the 2004 Hunting Act so cannot be considered "a traditional country pursuit." It is generally seen by many as a legal loophole that acts as cover for the illegal hunting of mammals. Even when hunts "claim" to follow artificial scent trails, there are reports of wild animals being chased and killed.
Numerous investigations and legal cases provide compelling evidence that trail hunting is routinely used to circumvent the law. This includes:
In 2020 a now infamous leaked Zoom webinar of the Hunting Office (the governing body for registered hunts) released by the Hunt Saboteurs Association caught senior figures admitting trail hunting is a 'smokescreen' for illegal hunting.
I am in support of:
A full ban on trail hunting with the removal of all exemptions.
Stronger enforcement against illegal hunting activity
Greater transparency and monitoring of hunts.
I would like to know:
Can you to represent my concerns in the House of Commons?
Will the Government ensure that all the exemptions from the Hunting Act 2004 are removed?
Leaving these will enable the continued breaking of the law wildlife suffering the consequences.
Thank you for taking the time to read this & I look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Name & Area
